Lord James Cavendish, MP (died unmarried in 1741)
his album is said to have belomged to the family of his great-great-nephew, Charles Cavendish, 1st Lord Chesham
until acquired c. 1950 by Mr L. Colling-Mudge
it was purchased for the British Museum from Mr Colling-Mudge (National Arts Collection Fun contributed £1500, Vallentin Fund £500)
some of the drawings were abstracted and separately mounted in 1964
