Provenance
in the collection of Phillipe, Duc d'Orléans (the regent) at the Palais-Royal, Paris which was formed in the quarter of the century before the Duke's death in 1723
It remained at the Palais-Royal until the Flemish and Dutch paintings of the collection were sold by the great-grandson of the Duc d'Orléans ('Philippe-Égalité') in 1791 or 1792 to Thomas Moore Slade, acting on behalf of Lord Kinnaird, Mr. Morland and Mr. Hammersley
